Cabinet hails Shura Council’s approval of constitutional amendments, reviews Ministry of Interior referendum preparations

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting today at the Amiri Diwan.

In a statement after the meeting, HE Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, said, the Cabinet hailed the Shura Council’s approval of draft constitutional amendments during its session on Monday.

The Cabinet emphasised that the productive collaboration between legislative and executive authorities—from the Cabinet’s preparation of the draft constitutional amendments to their approval by the Shura Council—reflects their unified commitment to the directives of HH the Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. These directives prioritise national unity and promote principles of justice and consultation, the rule of law, as well as equality in duties and responsibilities.

The Cabinet noted the issuance of Amiri Decree No. (87) of 2024, on inviting citizens to the referendum, which falls in line with HH the Amir’s vision to promote public participation and national unity.

In this regard, the Cabinet reviewed the Ministry of Interior’s and the General Referendum Committees’ comprehensive preparations to conduct the constitutional amendments referendum. Necessary arrangements and procedures are being put in place to facilitate the national event, which exemplifies the unique bond between the Qatari people and their leadership, reaffirming the nation’s unwavering commitment to unity and social cohesion, while preserving traditional values and principles.

As part of its proceedings, the Cabinet approved a draft Cabinet resolution amending certain provisions of Resolution No. (32) of 2013 on naming the Qatar Financial Markets Authority’s Appeals Committee Chairman and members.

The Cabinet went on to approve a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the State of Qatar and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to cooperate on tourism and business events.

The Cabinet also reviewed a MoU between the State of Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Kingdom of Sweden’s Folke Bernadotte Academy (Swedish Agency for Peace, Security and Development) for a peace, mediation and conflict resolution partnership, which was signed on 3 September 2024.

At the meeting’s conclusion, the Cabinet reviewed three reports, making decisions accordingly. These included the 2nd Government Resources Planning and Management System Project Steering Committee report for June 2024 and a Qatar Financial Markets Authority annual report on its operations and financial position for the 2023 fiscal year. Finally, the Cabinet examined the outcomes of the State of Qatar’s participation at the Qatar and Finland Business Forum, headed by HE the Minister of Commerce and Industry.
