His Excellency Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi

His Excellency Sultan bin Saad bin Sultan Al Muraikhi was appointed member of the Council of Ministers in January 2024 and has served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs since June 2016.

Career

Effective January 2024, His Excellency Sultan bin Saad bin Sultan Al Muraikhi was appointed Member of the Council of Ministers. He has served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since June 2016. Prior to that, he was appointed Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in March 2016, until he assumed the position of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

His Excellency served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Athens from December 2013 to March 2016. Prior to that, he held the same position at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Rome from November 2005 to 2013, while simultaneously serving as Qatar’s Permanent Representative to United Nations agencies based in Rome. Before his diplomatic assignment in Rome, His Excellency was seconded to serve at the Office of His Highness the Crown Prince at the Amiri Diwan from September 2000 to 2005.

Throughout the 1990s, His Excellency held several key diplomatic posts. He served at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Washington, D.C., from August 1994 to August 1997, before being appointed Consul General at the Consulate General of the State of Qatar in Houston from August 1997 to August 2000. Prior to that, he served as Director of the Office of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from January 1990 to August 1994. Earlier, he served as Assistant to the Director at the Office of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs from March 1989 to January 1990.

His Excellency began his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1984 as a Third Secretary. He rose through the diplomatic ranks and was promoted to the rank of Ambassador in 2003. In 2008, an Amiri Decree was issued appointing him at the rank of Undersecretary, followed by another Amiri Decree in 2016 appointing him at a ministerial rank.

Education

His Excellency Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi graduated in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Seattle Pacific University.

Responsibilities

His Excellency the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, under the supervision of His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, is responsible for managing all Ministry affairs within the framework of the Ministry’s general policy.
