HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the graduation ceremony of the Class of 2025 at Georgetown University in Qatar, which also marked the institution’s 20th anniversary as a partner of Qatar Foundation.

During the ceremony, the university conferred Bachelor of Science degrees in Foreign Service to 110 graduates. It also recognised the achievements of 20 graduates from the Executive Master’s in Diplomacy and International Affairs program, a growing initiative that underscores Qatar’s leadership in global diplomacy.

Addressing the graduates, HE the Prime Minister said the occasion was more than a celebration of academic success. It reflected Qatar’s commitment to investing in human capital as the foundation of national progress. He stressed that the journey to the future begins in classrooms and continues through careers and leadership roles that shape society.

HE the Prime Minister underlined that Qatar’s achievements in education are guided by the vision of HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, who places education and empowerment at the centre of national development. These pillars, he noted, are essential for long-term stability and sustainable growth.

He reiterated the government’s view of higher education as a strategic priority, describing it as vital to delivering Qatar National Vision 2030 and to building a diversified, knowledge-based economy.

HE the Prime minister noted that international academic partnerships play a critical role in that vision. “Strategic academic partnerships, such as ours with Georgetown University, serve as bridges from the present to the future, and from local to global impact,” he said. He praised the university’s Executive Master’s in Diplomacy and International Affairs as “a living example of how national needs and global academic expertise can come together.”

Turning to the graduating class, HE the Prime Minister urged students to embrace the responsibilities that lie ahead. “Today you stand at the threshold of a new chapter, one that calls on you to be partners in shaping a more just, understanding and connected world,” he said. “I have learned that standing by your principles does not mean rigidity, and that balance between aspiration and reality is the key to lasting progress.”

He affirmed Qatar’s confidence in the capabilities of its youth, telling the graduates: “You are the generation we count on to craft new visions and make a lasting impact.”

HE the Prime Minister also highlighted the cultural diversity of the university community, noting that more than 40 nationalities were represented among this year’s graduates. This, he said, was a testament to Qatar’s dedication to inclusive, cross-cultural education.

He concluded by congratulating the graduates, remarking that their achievements were part of a wider national journey. “You do not represent individual success stories – you are part of a broader national journey that believes people are our greatest investment.”

Georgetown University in Qatar recently celebrated 20 years since joining Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development as an international partner institution based in Education City.

Over the past two decades, Georgetown’s partnership with Qatar Foundation has been marked by collaboration and shared achievement. Since opening in 2005, the university has awarded more than 1,100 undergraduate and graduate degrees, reflecting its long-standing contribution to academic excellence and capacity building in the region.
